Anti Aging Skin Care

Vanity plays a large part in the use of popular anti aging skin care products and treatments; the growth in popularity is due in no small part to the fact that we are all living and working longer.

This group of beauty products generally works by enabling the synthesis of collagen, the main protein of connective tissue in animals and the most abundant in our body; with around a quarter of our skin protein being collagen, the importance of this substance has not gone unnoticed.

Collagen is related to other natural substances that help to slow down the ageing process; these are known as antioxidants that remove toxins from the body.

Vitamin C is probably one of the better known anti-oxidants in use today but the debate about the daily quota required is ongoing. Unfortunately all skin care treatments that use vitamin C have the problem of atmospheric oxidization to contend with once the product is exposed to the air.

More stable skin care treatments are now available that are almost as efficient and actually cost less to manufacture.

These new anti-oxidant products are not quite as good as vitamin C although other naturally occurring compounds, vitamin E and lipoic acid can achieve the same effect.

The body uses vitamin E as an antioxidant and is also used to increase the natural defense we have against disease, including many types of cancer, it is a fat soluble vitamin in people's blood.

Lipoic acid is found in every single human cell; it's function is to provide energy and reverse much of the damage caused to the skin by ageing.

The use of plants has not been overlooked either with many types able to provide essences called phytochemicals which have proved successful in anti aging skin care products. Like lipoic acid, phytochemicals help reduce the occurrence of cancers such as prostate, breast and colon cancers.

Other vitamins from the B group are also used in anti aging skin care like vitamins B5, B6 and B12 for example. The use of anti aging skin care products is a huge scientific field to research and has far greater potential than just producing goods that reduce the visible signs of age.

A great deal about the ageing process has already been learned and the products available today are already far more advanced than ten years ago but there is still a long way to go.

The amount of research going on in this field will undoubtedly bring results in time, hopefully bringing down the cost of these anti aging skin care products in addition to increasing their reliability.

Fortunately there is a number of natural anti-ageing regimes that can be carried out that do not rely on science.

Drinking plenty of water, getting a good night's sleep, exercising regularly, maintaining healthy eating habits and keeping stress at bay are an essential means of delaying the aging process.
